Description
Sinodillo sp “Vietnam” isopods are a great middle ground between display species and burrowers. Though shy, they’re not difficult to spot, often found under bark or surface debris.
Vietnam isopods bring a touch of the unexpected, perfect for intermediate keepers who want something a little different. Though the Sinodillo species is less known than others, it’s quickly gaining attention for its bold look and unique quirky presence.
Coloring is a unique mottled blend of grays and browns with cinnamon red accents on heads and skirts.
Breed Rate: Moderate to Fast
Origin: China and possibly parts of Vietnam
Adult Size: 10-12 mm, 1-1.2 cm, .4-.5 in
Temperature: 65-75F
Habits: Incredibly fast, nocturnal surface-dwellers. Shy and quick to scatter. Preference for cooler temperatures.
Husbandry: Moderate Humidity (50-75%), Deep Substrate with Moisture Gradient, Offer Plenty of Cover like Flat/Cork Bark, Leaf Litter, Wood Rot, Limestone, and Seed Pods (Magnolia, Sweet Gum, Lotus)
Primary Diet: Decaying Organic Matter, Leaf Litter, and Wood Rot
Supplemental Diet: Fish Flakes, Dried Shrimp, Cuttlebone or Egg Shells, Sweet Potatoes, Carrots, Butternut Squash, Freeze-Dried Peas, Dried or Dead Insects, Zucchini, Cucumber, Commercial Food like Repashy Morning Wood
These guys were originally classified as a Merulanella genus, but new research led to Sinodillo sp. There’s some controversy around the “Vietnam” label, as they likely didn’t originate from Vietnam. So, they’re also known as Sinodillo sp. “China” and Sinodillo sp. “Red Head”
