Porcellio Werneri “Greek Shield” isopod

Price range: $55.00 through $100.00

If you’re looking for a species that breaks the typical “roly-poly” mold, the Porcellio werneri does exactly that.

Known as “Greek Shield” for their sleek, flattened profile, this isopod is built for speed or squeeze. If threatened, they’ll either bolt or hunker down in a tight crevice.

Description

Greek shield isopods display striking color, with a soft gray body accented by bright white or pearl fringes.

One of the most important considerations for Greek Shields is their preference for dry conditions. Unlike many isopods that thrive in moist environments, this species does not tolerate moisture well. Too much humidity will quickly lead to stress and die-offs.

Because of their delicate nature, intolerance for humidity, and ridiculously slow breeding, Greek Shields are only recommended for advanced keepers.
